06 Oct Sisters In Spirit Vigil Downtown Eastside

Sisters In Spirit 2016

Each year throughout Canada, Aboriginal Peoples and non-Aborginal people alike come together for a candlelight vigil to honour, acknowledge, and support our country’s missing and murdered aboriginal women and girls and the family and friends who love them. The evening is marked by compassion and humanity, where the loved ones of victims, and even victims themselves, are able to talk about their pain and experience to those gathered by a desire to empathize. The evening is sombre, but not without its lighter moments of humour and levity. Finally, there are some powerful songs and performances by members of the Native community, elders, dance troupes like Butterflies in Spirit (gallery below), and hip-hop artists.
